HIST 347 - Facing East From Indian Country: A Native History of Early America
Prerequisites:HIST 100 or consent of instructor Fulfills a course requirement in the History Core Concentration. hroughout the period before the United States declared its independence, the vast majority of North America was Indian country. By “facing east” from Indian country, the course centers the experiences of Indigenous Peoples in historical context. The course examines how and why Indian country first became aware of a “new world” across the ocean. The course analyzes how Indigenous Peoples incorporated European people, objects, and ideas into Indian country on Indian terms.
