Cross-Listed with:CNST 540 Prerequisites:SUST 301 or SUST 401 or CNST 450 This course develops an awareness of environmental problems created by construction projects. The course also examines the means and methods of addressing these problems in a “green” way. Sustainability must be addressed on a life-cycle basis from the origins of the building materials, through the construction process, ending with the eventual disposal of the project. Topics include: LEED history and application; life-cycle costing; energy measurement; sustainable site planning and; “green” technologies; sustainability as a value-engineering exercise; the methods and means of sustainable construction; “green” site logistics; educating the sustainable work force; sustainable construction and public relations.
