VARTS 131 - Foundations of Sculpture Prerequisites: None Fulfills a course requirement in the Visual Arts: Sculpture Core Concentration This course introduces students to the materials, concepts and strategies for making 3 dimensional work, connecting idea to process and emphasizing personal creative inquiry. Materials and processes may include but are not limited to: wood, metal, fiber, kinetics, digital fabrication, installation, performance and video. Students develop the critical and practical tools necessary to approach art-making from various directions and consider how they might be incorporated into their own sculpture. Field trips and readings on the history and theory of sculpture will expand the students’ understanding of the range of possibilities in contemporary sculpture and its rich history.
