Middle School Certificate

The Middle School Certificate is a three-course sequence for licensed teachers leading to endorsement in the state of Rhode Island as a middle school teacher (grades 5-8) in one of the following content areas: Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, or Foreign Languages. Teacher candidates in Elementary or Secondary education at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as certified Elementary or Secondary school teachers are eligible for this program and the resulting certification. Candidates must have completed at least 21 semester hours in the content areas of Mathematics, English, Science, or Social Studies.

The program consists of nine credits of course work and a supervised field experience in a middle school:

To be considered for admission to the Middle School Certificate sequence, applicants must submit the following:
- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework.
- Completed “Non-matriculated Graduate Application.”
