The Cultural Studies major involves the interdisciplinary study of culture and identity and leads to a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies. Using an interdisciplinary lens, students investigate the ways that cultural identity, including factors like race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, immigration, ability, geography, and religion, affects individual experiences, everyday life, social relations, and societal power.

Program Requirements
Majors must satisfy University Core Curriculum requirements and the College speech requirement, COMM 210 . Students should formulate a specific program of study in consultation with the Cultural Studies faculty. Students must complete the following thirteen (13) courses (39 credits) and sufficient electives to total at least 120 credits. Majors are encouraged to apply electives toward a minor or second major.

Note:
* These are variable content courses and may be repeated for credit, but students may study a single topic only once.
Four Interdisciplinary Electives:
At least two at the 200 level or above from offerings on cultures of the United States and the world from disciplines such as Anthropology + Sociology, Art and Architectural History, Architecture, East Asian Studies, English, History, Music, Philosophy, and Political Science. Courses from additional departments may be approved in consultation with the student’s advisor.
