Language Major Requirements

• The Language Major and All Grades Education Dual Major requires the completion of 30 credits of Language offerings in the target language.
• 12 credits must be completed in the target language at the 300-level or higher.
• Two Survey in Literature courses (338-339) must be completed in the target language.
• 6 credits may be satisfied with elective courses (in translation) related to the target language, provided those credits are approved by the Department. For Modern Language Majors, the Senior Thesis (LANG 420) will count as one of these two courses in translation, if the Senior Thesis is not completed in the target language.
• Students must complete at least one course in linguistics. This linguistic course will count as one of the two elective courses. Language students traditionally take this course abroad because it is not offered at RWU. Course substitutions are granted if the course covers morphology, syntax, semantics, or other suitable content.

• This course is a Pre-Practicum experiential residency requirement for all Secondary Education majors. Students register for this course by choosing three weekly hours of clinical work every semester during their sophomore and junior years. The Education field office places registered students in elementary- secondary classrooms to fulfill this pre-practicum clinical experience. If students are abroad during one of the semesters listed above, they may be excused from this requirement during the abroad semester.
