ARCH 538 - Design of Structures II Prerequisites: ARCH 537 Plus Graduate standing or Senior standing with permission of the instructor Requirement Fulfillment: Requirement for B.S./M.Arch; Delivery: Lecture and Recitation A qualitative and quantitative analysis of structural materials, structural members, and structural assemblies. Emphasizes the fundamental design principles of wood, steel and concrete structures. Foundation and lateral load resisting systems will be studied. Case studies of significant architectural structures will be assigned to develop design and analytical skills, including the use of structural analysis software. The integration of the structural system with other systems within the building and its relationship to the enclosure system will be addressed. Advanced structural technologies, such as tensile, shell, and high-rise systems will be introduced.
