ARCH 526 - Theory of Architecture Cross-Listed with: ARCH 322 Prerequisites: ARCH 525. Plus Graduate standing The intention of this course is to familiarize students with a variety of historical, theoretical and methodological issues that have structured contemporary understanding and criticism of architecture. The class introduces students to the polemics and debates of the post-war period, the developments and influence of non-Western modern architecture, post-modernism, the theoretical investigations centered around structuralism and post-structuralism, the development of the various schools of architectural theory in the 1970s and 1980s, and contemporary theoretical and critical positions.
