EDU 643 - Middle School Special Education Residency Prerequisites: Admittance into the MA in Special Education Program (either Elementary or Secondary Special Education) & Admittance into the Middle School Special Education Add-on Track Delivery: Practicum Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education intern will provide direct instruction as well as instructional support to students with mild-moderate disabilities in individual and small group settings in the middle school setting. This middle school extension will allow candidates who are seeking either elementary special education or secondary special education to lead toward middle school special education certification. This experience is part of the full-time student teaching residency. Interns will also work collaboratively with parents, general education teachers, instructional aides, and other professionals as appropriate in order to plan, deliver, manage, and evaluate the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream settings. Interns will also assist in the development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and participate in special education meetings and in the preparation of required special education paperwork.
