COMM 265 - Visual Rhetoric - Visual Culture Prerequisites: COMM 100 or COMM 101 Requirement Fulfillment: Fulfills a course requirement in the Global Communication core concentration and minor How do pictures-both moving and still-create for us an almost palpable world of objects and events? How do we create meaning from the many visuals presented to us on a daily basis? The emerging fields of visual rhetoric and visual culture encompass and overlap with many areas in visual studies: semiotics, persuasion, photography, art, and cultural studies. In this course students will ask two questions that frame the visual conversation: “How do images act rhetorically upon viewers?” and “What is the response of individuals and groups to the various forms of visual media within a given culture?”
