The Biotechnology Masters’ degree from Roger Williams combines critical thinking, information synthesis, and effective communication with customized interdisciplinary training in biotechnology, regulatory affairs, leadership, and management. This multifaceted training primes RWU graduates to excel in a globalized biotechnology job market.
A capstone Biotechnology Internship integrates a working experience at relevant biotechnology industries, academic laboratories, government agencies, or other state or federal government offices that fit the interdisciplinary aim of the Biotechnology Master’s program.

Foundation requirements for the Biotechnology, M.A.
Requires a minimum of 30 credits. Undergraduate degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. Master’s students should maintain a 3.0 GPA to be awarded the Biotechnology Master’s degree. Interdisciplinary categories [twelve credits]
Twelve credits must be completed by taking two 3-credit courses from Biology/Biochemistry Biotechnology; one 3-credit course from Physics/Mathematics Biotechnology; and one 3-credit course from Regulatory Affairs. Biology/Biochemistry Biotechnology
Complete two 3-credit courses from: Physics / Mathematics Biotechnology
Complete one 3-credit course from: Regulatory Affairs
Complete one 3-credit course from: Additional Elective [three credits]
One additional 3 credit course can be taken from any of the three categories: Biology/Biochemistry Biotechnology; Physics/Mathematics Biotechnology; and Regulatory Affairs. Leadership and Management category [nine credits]
Three 3-credit courses must be completed from leadership and management. Leadership and Management
Complete three 3-credit courses from: Biotechnology Internship [six credits]
BIOTEC575 Biotechnology Internship: In this capstone experience, students work at relevant biotechnology industries, academic laboratories, government agencies, or other state or federal government offices that fit the interdisciplinary aim of the Biotechnology Master’s program. Internship projects can be in basic research, business operations, industrial and biomedical sciences, regulatory affairs, or leadership and management. The internship can be completed during summer months or the academic year, requiring a minimum of 240 hours. Students can take 1-6 credit (total 240 hours) course(s) to complete the requirement. Internship proposals must be reviewed and approved by the Lead Faculty Advisor of the Biotechnology Master’s program prior to enrollment. |
