The Master of Arts in Mathematics Education is designed for educators who are passionate about teaching mathematics and want to deepen their expertise in pedagogical content knowledge, instructional methods, and current research in the field. This program is ideal for those who already hold an initial teaching license or are not pursuing licensure, as it focuses on professional development rather than certification. Tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, the program offers flexibility in course selection and pacing. While it can be completed in one year of full-time study, many educators choose to complete the degree part-time while continuing to teach.
The Master’s in Mathematics Education program is designed to prepare educators with the knowledge, skills, and pedagogical expertise necessary to improve mathematics instruction and student learning. The program emphasizes a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, effective teaching practices, and research-based strategies to enhance mathematics education at various levels. Graduates will be equipped to take on leadership roles in curriculum development, professional development, and educational research.

4 + 1 Opportunity
The 4+1 M.A. Mathematics Education program allows for exceptional undergraduate elementary education or secondary education majors the opportunity to earn six graduate credits during their senior year and, if in good standing, continue on in one additional year of full-time study. Students accepted into this program take two graduate courses in their senior year. The remaining eight courses are completed as matriculated graduate students in one full-time year of study. Candidates interested in this program must apply during their undergraduate junior year for conditional acceptance in this program. Program of Study consists of 12 courses, 37 credits. All students must complete at least 31 graduate credits. Students who demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes of two of the following four courses may apply for advanced standing in this program and will be required to take the other two of the four courses below: Courses Taken during the Fall/ Spring Year of Graduate Studies
MA in Mathematics Education for In-Service Teachers
The program is designed for K-12 certified teachers. The program will take 2 years - two summers and two fall-spring semesters. Program of Study consists of 12 courses listed above for a total of 37 credits. Recommended Sequence of Courses:
