The minor develops students’ linguistic proficiency and broadens their understandings of Chinese culture. The communication skills and transcultural awareness that students develop throughout the courses of the minor prepare them for a wide range of opportunities and experiences in the classroom and around the world.
In order to complete a minor in Chinese, students are placed at the appropriate level and are required to complete a minimum of three Chinese language courses, with at least one course being at the 300 level, plus an additional course from a list.
So, if you start CHN 101, you must take CHN 101, 102, 201, 202, one 300-level language course;
if you are placed in CHN 102, you must take CHN 102, 201, 202, one 300-level language course;
if you are placed in Chinese 201, you must take CHN 201, 202, one 300-level language course;
if you are placed in Chinese 202, you must take CHN 202 and two 300-level courses;
if you are placed in 300-level of Chinese, you must take three 300-level courses, with two taking while studying abroad or online at another American high education institution.
