All accounting majors gain hands-on, real-world accounting experience as interns. Accounting majors are encouraged to pursue one or more professional accounting certificates (CPA, CMA, CFM, CIA, CFE) after graduation.

Professional Licensure Disclosure

In accordance with the 2019 Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, RWU discloses that the Bachelor of Science in Accounting alone, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), does not satisfy the educational requirements for licensure as a Certified Professional Accountant, which requires a minimum of 150 credits in all U.S. states and territories.

However, we have a special pathway for any student who wishes to complete their CPA to take 150 credits in their undergraduate. Please contact the Accounting Department to do so.

Additionally, applicable licensing board in your state/territory may also impose additional requirements on candidates prior to granting a license (e.g., specific coursework; passing of an exam; obtaining a certificate; providing evidence of work experience; etc.), and if you are interested in becoming a CPA, we encourage you to investigate those requirements with your licensing board
