CLS 107 - The Divine Comedy Requirement Fulfillment: Major, Minor Delivery: Lecture In this course students will study the first two of the three canticles of Dante Alighieri’s poem, the Commedia or Divine Comedy. Lectures will focus upon specific episodes in order to draw out and discuss the contemporary significance of this poem from its ancient and medieval past. How the poet blends elements of classical pagan literary culture with his own medieval literary traditions, and how he inserts his Christian belief system in order to create the medieval epic poem will be the focus of class discussion.
