ENGR 314 - Soil Mechanics and Lab Prerequisites: ENGR 300 - Mechanics of Materials Must be completed prior to taking this course. Corequisite: ENGR.314L - Soil Mechanics Laboratory must be taken at the same semester as lecture. Requirement Fulfillment: Major Delivery: Lec/Lab Addresses properties of soil used in engineering including soil classification, compaction, swelling and shrinkage, permeability and seepage, consolidation, strength and stiffness, and implications of soil for civil engineering design. Also addresses soil and rock drilling and sampling techniques and interpretation of boring logs. In addition, laboratory exercises include measuring index, consolidation, and strength properties of soils. Minimum Passing Grade: 68% = D Repeatable: Yes
