EDU 507 - Introduction to Elementary Literacy Practices I
Prerequisites:EDU 501 or EDU 502 and EDU 503 or EDU 504 This course examines the emergence and development of young children’s knowledge of the English Language Arts. The major focus of this course is the teaching of reading, speaking, and listening strategies in formal and informal multicultural contexts. The course lays groundwork of knowledge by examining current research in teaching literacy and literacy practice as defined in the Rhode Island Grade Level Expectations (GLE’s). Field experiences in this course include participating in a voluntary reading program or working with a child in a public school. Students must also demonstrate competence in using instructional technology.
