ENGR 437 - Acoustics Prerequisites: MATH 317 Corequisite: ENGR 305 This course will investigate various aspects of acoustics, but begins with a general review of vibrations. A broad introduction to acoustics will be covered including modeling the propagation of plane and spherical waves in media and their interaction with boundaries, simple resonant systems such as pipes and Helmholtz resonators, and simple sources. Several applied acoustics topics will be covered as well, such as acoustic levitation, room acoustics, loudspeaker design, outdoor sound propagation, underwater sound propagation, ultrasound imaging/high intensity focused ultrasound and sonoluminescence.
