ME 505 - Classical and Contemporary Approaches to 2D Geometry

Requirement Fulfillment: Fulfills requirement for the Master of Arts in Mathematics Education program.
Delivery: Lecture
This graduate-level course engages participants in a rigorous exploration of geometric concepts through inductive and deductive reasoning, leading to the development of conjectures and formal proofs. Participants construct geometric figures using a straightedge and compass to investigate properties of congruence and similarity in triangles. A critical examination of the Pythagorean Theorem and its corollaries provides a foundation for problem-solving in various geometric contexts. The course also encompasses the classification of quadrilaterals, the analysis of parallel lines and transversals, and the exploration of area and perimeter in two-dimensional spaces. Additionally, participants apply coordinate and transformational geometry to solve complex problems. The integration of dynamic software enhances visualization, exploration, and validation of geometric relationships.
