ARCH 333 - Environmental Systems I Cross-Listed with: ARCH 540 Prerequisites: Junior or Graduate standing Delivery: Lecture Environmental Systems I introduces principles of environmental and building systems in architecture. The course establishes a foundation in building physics and sustainable design strategies that leverage natural environmental forces to achieve high-performance architecture with minimal reliance on mechanical systems. Topics include thermal comfort, psychrometrics, climate analysis, passive and active systems for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, acoustics, and water and electrical infrastructure. Assignments foster both conceptual and embodied types of knowledge for a grounded understanding of environmental phenomena.
