AQS 202 - Disease Concepts and Diagnostics in Fish Prerequisites: Aquatic Animal Welfare Module offered through The Aquarium Vet E-quarist Course Requirement Fulfillment: AQS Undergraduate Certificate Note: One course in the AQS Undergraduate Certificate Delivery: Other Welcome to AQS 202: Disease Concepts and Diagnostics in Fish - this course examines the concept of disease and the factors that trigger disease. The course includes the steps in making a diagnosis, the immune system and its involvement in the process, and covers stress as an important factor in the development of disease. The diagnostic section covers basic sample collection and examination such as gill biopsies and will include a section on the sedation/anesthesia of fish, as well as the process of euthanasia. Proper post-mortem techniques and sample collection are also covered. The concept of quarantine and biosecurity will be addressed, as well as introducing new animals to the aquarium environment. Disinfection and the possibility of zoonotic diseases (those caused by fish pathogens that may jump to other species - including humans) will be covered.
