ENVS 200 - Environmental Data Science and Lab Prerequisites: Take MATH.136 with a C- or better or PMATH.213
or consent of instructor Corequisite: ENVS.200L - Environmental Data Science Lab Pre- or Co-requisite: or MATH.213
Requirement Fulfillment: Fullfills a Core Program requirement for Environmental Science majors. Fulfills an Applied Elective for Marine Biology. Fulfills a Supplemental Elective for Biology. Delivery: Lec/Lab Data are key to asking and answering questions, testing hypotheses, and critically evaluating solutions in socio-environmental systems. As more data become publicly available, often in real time, managing and interpreting this deluge of information requires increasingly advanced skills. So how do we make sense of all these data? What specific challenges arise when dealing with environmental data? How can we use data to improve communication in environmental science while making all our work open and reproducible? This course addresses these questions as we learn to apply data science principles to environmental problems, with hands-on coding in R. You’ll gain valuable skills for careers in research, policy, and the private sector, working on collaborative projects that tackle real-world socio-environmental challenges.
