ENVS 103 - The Dynamic Earth w/Lab Prerequisites: None Corequisite: ENVS 103L Requirement Fulfillment: Fulfills a course requirement in the Environmental Science Minor Delivery: Lec/Lab This foundational survey of Earth system science examines the physical processes that dynamically shape our planet over time and their connections to modern ecosystems, natural resources, and hazards. Students will learn to describe Earth materials and understand how plate tectonics influence the formation of geologic features like mountain ranges, ocean basins, and volcanic arcs. Through this course, they will develop practical skills in interpreting geologic maps and cross-sections. Additionally, students will explore geologic hazards and natural resources, considering both the risks and benefits that arise from Earth processes. The lab component provides hands-on opportunities to build skills essential to Earth and environmental scientists, while synthesizing knowledge about the interactions among Earth’s spheres.
