BIO 325 - Advanced Molecular and Cell Biology and Lab Prerequisites: BIO 200 or consent of the instructor Requirement Fulfillment: Fulfills a course requirement in the B.A. and B.S. Biology Major, the Biology Minor, and the Biotechnology Certificate
The course explores the molecular basis of eukaryotic cell behavior. Topics include stem cell biology, cytoskeletal dynamics, extracellular matrix, protein sorting and the endomembrane system, cell signaling, cell cycling, and programmed cell death. The course concludes with a discussion of how each of these molecular processes can be perturbed in cancer cells. Lab consists of experiments in mammalian tissue culture, including density fractionation, immunoblotting, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry.
