Designed as a foundation for science-based disciplines, this course begins with a survey of basic chemistry as it applies to the structure and function of cells. An exploration of cellular physiology includes organelle function, metabolic processes and human organ systems highlighted as an example of the integrated workings of different cell types. The laboratory reinforces the concepts of the class and includes techniques in biological chemistry, microscope use and instrumental analysis.
