Fulfills a requirement for the minor in Latin America and Latino Studies Delivery: Lecture Due to the increasing number of Latin American women receiving worldwide recognition and literary awards, the new “Latin American boom” is female. Interestingly, women have been writing since colonial times, raising the question: Why have their writings become visible only recently? This course seeks to explore this phenomenon and the history of women writing in the context of the different waves of feminism, which today was ignited by #niunamenos in Latin America, and #yositecreo in Spain.
With a primary focus on women’s writing, this course will delve into themes of violence, racism, feminism, motherhood, and the evolving role of women in society in Latin America and Spain. The reading material will encompass a wide range of periods, from early modern times to the contemporary era, and will include diverse genres such as short stories, poetry, essays, and chronicles.
In order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topics, these writings will be complemented by relevant films and articles about the latest developments of the feminist movements in both Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. No
